The Lord Mayor of London recently led a business delegation to China and Hong Kong which coincided with the Chancellor’s September visit. The Lord Mayor also hosted a Guildhall banquet in honour of President Xi Jinping during his State Visit to the UK. The Lord Mayor would be delighted to brief parliamentarians and friends of the APPCG on the role which the City of London and the Lord Mayor’s office plays in helping to make sure London and the UK remains the global partner of choice for China when it comes to financial and professional services.

He will be joined in particular by Gareth Ward, Head of the China Department at the FCO, who will brief the group on the outcomes of George Osborne’s trip to China, the recent State Visit, and the next steps the government plans to take in carrying forward the momentum of this “golden era” in UK-China relations.

Some key areas of cooperation which the Lord Mayor raised on his recent visit include: development of offshore RMB market and RMB internationalisation, maritime services, green finance and financial technology, education connections, the development of China’s capital markets, maritime services, and other areas of mutual interest.
